WHAT WE BELIEVE
BASIS OF FAITH
a) The unity of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit in the Godhead.
(John 14 & 16: 5-15)
b) The love and sovereignty of God in creation, revelation, redemption and final judgement.
(Isaiah 40: 12-31; Genesis 1)
c) The divine inspiration and infallibility of Holy Scripture, as originally given, and its supreme authority in all matters of faith and conduct. (John 10: 35; 2 Timothy 3: 15-17; 2 Peter 1: 20-21)
d) The universal sinfulness and guilt of human nature since the fall, rendering man subject to God’s wrath and condemnation.
(Genesis 3; Romans 3: 9-23)
e) The full deity of the Lord Jesus Christ, the incarnate Son of God; His virgin birth and His real and sinless humanity; His death on the cross, His bodily resurrection and His present reign in heaven and earth.
(Matthew 1: 22-23; John 1:1; 2 Corinthians 5: 21)
f) Redemption from the guilt, penalty and power of sin only through the sacrificial death once and for all-time of our representative and substitute, Jesus Christ, the only mediator between God and man.
(Mark 10: 45; Hebrews 9: 11-28)
g) Justification as God’s act of undeserved mercy, in which the sinner is pardoned of all his sins, and accepted as righteous in God’s sight, only because of the righteousness of Christ imputed to Him, this justification being received by faith alone.
(Ephesians 2: 8-9; Romans 5:1; Galatians 3: 6, 24)
h) The need for the Holy Spirit to make the work of Christ effective to the individual sinner, granting him repentance toward God and faith in Christ Jesus.
(John 3: 1-16; John 16: 8)
i) The indwelling of the Holy Spirit in all true believers, producing in them an increasing likeness to Christ in character and behaviour, and empowering them for their witness in the world.
(Galatians 5: 6-26; 2 Corinthians 3: 18)
j) The one holy, universal church, which is the body of Christ, and to which all true believers belong.
(Ephesians 4: 3-13; 1 Peter 2: 9-10). It is Christ’s will that those who through Him believe in God should unite in a visible church. The visible church is a local company of believers gathered under the headship of Christ for worship, fellowship, instruction, evangelism and practice of the ordinances of believer’s baptism and the Lord’s Supper.
k) The future personal return of the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge all men, executing God’s just condemnation on the unbeliever and receiving the redeemed to eternal glory.
(1 Thessalonians 4: 13-5:11; Luke 13: 22-30)
